Newfoundland folklore: The tale of Sheila NaGeira and Gilbert Pike
I made a graphic novel script based off of a folk tale for one of my classes, and added a few examples for the first pages. I am no artist, but if any Canadian illustrators would like to team up with me and actually make this thing a reality that would be cool.
Essentially the original tale is about an Irish princess who falls in love with an English privateer (who may or may not turn into a pirate) they are married and settle in Newfoundland where they have the first child in America of European descent.
MY concept is a tale of a bored princess who will do anything to escape her frail damsel status. With a feminist twist, I turned the character who is known for her role as a child bearing housewife into a pirate fighting feminist, who needs no man, only adventure.

If Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad wolf taught me anything, it was that walking alone, through the woods, is a recipe for disaster.
The whole tale is an account of rape, of male consumption threatening to swallow me whole if I failed to take the right path.
Nice story for a young impressionable mind, non?
